Fix the 4 Most Cumbersome VPN problems in seconds

Sometimes the VPN services may get suddenly stopped or the VPN server may suddenly stop connecting various systems to it. This problem may arise due to various reasons like; whether the VPN server is not working properly due to some of the internal technical problems or maybe it is due to the poor internet connection. It may also be due to the acceptance of unauthorized connections to your computer system or the VPN server is failing of the creating a connection due to the out of reach systems. VPNs initially become very popular only due to the reason that they are providing its customers a safe and secure internet connection and it is also enabling the computer systems for making restrictions on various sites.
The four main problems that are the main reasons of poor VPN connection are: -

  • Rejection of VPN connection
  • Unauthorized connection
  • Remote user
  • Incomplete establishment of VPN tunnel

Prevention of being rejected through VPN connection

Rejection of a VPN connection is a very common process. This problem generally arises due to many reasons. If your system is showing a continuous and rejection from the remote VPN server then the first thing you have to do is to check all the internet connections. You should also make sure that your routing service and remote access services are working properly. Any technical problem in these may arise the problem of the rejection of the VPN connection. You should also check the control panel of the VPN server to detect the problem. Once all the connections have been checked, the next thing you have to do is to ping the VPN server through you IP address which helps in verifying the basic TCP/IP connection of your system to the VPN server.

Check the Authenticity

Once you have checked the connection through your IP address the next thing you have to do is to check the authenticity of the connection between your system and VPN server. For an authorized connection between a VPN server and a client, both must have at least one common authentication method. The main steps for checking the authentication process are: -

  • Enter the MMC command at the Run prompt.
  • A window will open with an empty Microsoft Management Console session.
  • Click on the Add/ Remove Snap-in command.
  • A property sheet will appear, from where a click on the Add button.

  • A list of available snap-ins will appear from where you have to select Routing and Remote Access.
  • Click on the Add button, then Close and OK buttons.
  • Open the Routing and Remote Access snap-in console and right click on the listening for your VPN server.
  • Select the properties command and click on the Security tab > Authentication Methods and check the various required authentication methods.

Remote User

Once the authentication the VPN server has been checked the next step you have to do is to check if the client is within reachable distance of the VPN server or not. In the case of remote VPN server, it is not possible to create dial-in privileges for a secure internet connection. You should also check whether the client is connected to a server with a verified user name and password.

Complete establishment of VPN tunnel

VPN problems may also be due to the incomplete establishment of a VPN tunnel between the server and the client. There are two main possibilities of the failure of the VPN tunnel. The first one is due to the reason that if more than one router is performing IP packet filtering then, in this case, it will block the IP tunnel traffic, and the second one is due to the proxy server standing between the client and the server.
